This weekend the hubby, dog and I ventured back to my homeland for the annual Harvest Festival. It was chilly, it was windy, it was a great time. Of course, since that night went so well, something was bound to happen! This morning we awoke to Athena the Great Dane licking our faces. She needed to go outside...BAD! Paul quickly composed himself and headed out for her morning walk. I took my time to get ready and while talking to my mom heard Paul scream. Outside, Paul was sitting on the ground, holding on to Athena the Great Dane's leash as she was wrapped around a rose bush or two. Needless to say, we spent the remainder of the day at the Quick Care and in the X-ray department where we have yet to determine the fate of Paul's knee/ankle/foot. All I currently know is that his leg is red and swollen and he refuses to keep ice on it. I have always heard that men were babies when it came to being sick or hurt, now I have the proof!
Of course, with Paul's hurt leg that meant I had to drive home. It's not so bad. The drive is only slightly over an hour and I got to drive the hubby's new car. Also, I declared that I got to choose the music since my husband just likes to listen to the clicks and ticks that is techno. What did make this particular quest, well, difficult, was the fact that there was a very large, slobbering, mammoth of a canine with her face in mine that majority of the time. Just breathing. I don't want to speak ill of my beautiful, big baby so let's just say...she has her own toothbrush now.
So now we are home. Athena is sleeping and Paul has his leg propped up with ice (FINALLY!). I was flipping through the channels and noticed that it's Halloween Time! That means the creepy movies are creeping out. If there is one thing I know about me without a doubt, it's the fact that I'm a 100%, genuine, self-proclaimed SCAREDY-CAT! The movies they are showing on television are horrifying! Of course, I could always watch the adorable movie selections chosen by ABC Family and Disney channel, but I don't have a child so I guess I need to steer clear of those. So... I have made my own Halloween Movie-Thon (for the Scaredy-Cat)!! There are 13 nights until Halloween and since Paul and I live a less than exciting life, we will watch one Halloween influenced film through All Hallow's Eve.
Here's the line-up!
October 19th -- The Mummy (Mummies and the Encino Man to swoon over, yes please!)
October 20th -- Clue (The butler did it! Or did he...)
October 21st -- Labyrinth (David Bowie as a goblin king in tights, well sure!)
October 22nd -- Zombieland (Bill Murray, Woody Harrelson, and the kid from Social Network all kickin' major zombie booty!)
October 23rd -- Gremlins (Whatever you do, don't feed them after midnight!)
October 24th -- Young Frankenstein (I actually haven't seen this movie and I'm so excited that I found a copy of it to watch in my movie-thon. I hear it's a classic!)
October 25th -- Fright Night (The original one made in the 80s is the one this scaredy-cat is talking about. It's so funny, you can't get scared!)
October 26th -- Dark Shadows (Johnny Depp...Johnny Depp...Johnny Depp)
October 27th -- Edward Scissorhands (Johnny Depp...Johnny Depp...Johnny Depp)
October 28th -- Ghostbusters (Who ya gonna call?!)
October 29th -- Little Shop of Horrors (Every movie-thon needs a musical and since the hubby vetoed Rocky Horror, this carnivorous movie took it's place!)
October 30th -- The Nightmare Before Christmas (Is it a Halloween movie? Is it a Christmas movie? It's great, and that's all that matters in my book!)
October 31st -- Hocus Pocus (It's THE Halloween movie. I love everything about it!)
So goodnight y'all. I get to curl up with my husband and bury my face in his chest while watching The Mummy. Lucky me!! Let me know if you have any movies to add to the list!

The Beginning of Blog
My wedding day was perfection. Okay, it was hot as hell. But after a couple of mimosas that morning and a couple bottles of wine that night, it was perfection. Our honeymoon was heaven. A week in St. Lucian paradise--heaven. Then, we came back to reality. Don't get me wrong, things weren't bad. However, reality happened. Life happened. CHANGE happened. Lots of change. Lots of life-altering, moving-Meredith-around-so-her-life-will-never-be-the-same change happened.
In our first two months of marriage, Paul and I moved (the first time I've been away from my family ever), I started a new teaching job in a new district, Paul got a promotion and my family experienced loss in a way we never had before. It was Different with a capital D. But now I'm here in a land obsessed with our 16th president, texting my mom daily instead of talking to her at work like I used to, and washing a man's underwear (yeah, eww).
Fortunately things are looking up! I'm starting to get into a groove at work, my new home is slowly coming together (now if we can only get our baby Great Dane to stop running into the walls), and I talk to my family as much as possible. Plus, it's holiday season! Halloween is approaching fast, I'm looking up Thanksgiving recipes as fast as Pinterest will let me and I'm slowly compiling a list of small gifts to put in my husband's stocking for Christmas. If you're ready for the holidays stick around. I have lots to talk about!
I can hardly believe this was 4 months ago! |
